Meet André Olwagen

André Olwagen is a South African photographer and architect who has worked across seventeen countries and four continents—from equatorial Uganda to monsoon Thailand, from Senegal's Atlantic coast to India's high-altitude clarity.

That work taught him how atmosphere and light shift across latitudes, how distance feels different depending on where you're standing, and how a room breathes when the right image settles into it.

His photographs are an extension of that spatial practice: minimal, emotive, and designed to bring presence—not decoration—into interiors that value calm, clarity, and connection.

Background

I've worked as an architect across seventeen countries and four continents—from South Africa and Namibia to Thailand, Uganda, India, Senegal, and the Middle East, with projects extending through East Africa, Central Africa, and Central America.

That work taught me to read light differently depending on where I was standing. How equatorial sun cuts hard and fast in Uganda. How coastal haze softens everything in Senegal. How high-altitude clarity makes distance feel tactile. How monsoon light in Thailand turns the air itself into a subject.

Photography became an extension of that work—a way to capture not just what places look like, but how they feel to inhabit. The weight of heat. The quality of silence. The way a landscape holds your attention or lets it drift.

Stillness & Story

Photography for me is less about precision and more about presence. Each image holds emotion, memory, and stillness – an invitation to pause and reflect.

Light as a Subject

I don't just see the light; I feel it. My work is shaped by luminous moments – shadows in the desert, mist in the morning, wind moving through trees.

Carft & Care

Each piece is a limited edition, printed on museum-grade paper with intention. Created for spaces that value depth, stillness, and understated beauty.
